"Pitch Perfect" Over the holidays we watched Pitch Perfect. Anna Kendrick (big fan) plays the new girl/outcast at college, where her father is a teacher. He promises her he will fund her move to LA if she gives school a real shot. She ends up falling in with an acapella group hellbent on erasing the embarrassment of the previous year's competition and beating the hugely talented rival male group. Along the way there's conflict, laughs, some love and some great one-liners.I have to say I really enjoyed it! Sure, it's not innovative, it's not gross-out (maybe a little) and it's not going to win any awards. But the writing is sharp, the young actors all put in decent performances and there are plenty of laughs to be had. Definitely worth a watch if only for Rebel Wilson, Adam DeVine and of course Elizabeth Banks and John Michael Higgins as announcers. If you're a fan of the fast-talking, vulgar and inappropriate nature of Apatow movies and the like, then this probably isn't for you. I tend to enjoy both sides of the fence as long as the execution is there and it is with "Pitch". It once again proves that you can draw real laughs without pushing the envelope or being disgusting. Don't get me wrong, I am ALL FOR those when they work but it's not always necessary.
